Corporate Officer Charged For Failing To File General Excise Tax Returns

HONOLULU — On April 11, 2008, a complaint was filed in the District Court of the
Second Circuit, Wailuku Division, State of Hawai‘i on Albert V. Chiarella, president of Al Chiarella, Inc., for failing to file the company’s annual general excise tax returns for the years 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005.
Chiarella was served a penal summons on April 24, 2008 for his appearance at
Wailuku Division District Court Hoapili Hale in Court Room 3D, on Thursday May 22,
2008. Failing to file a return is a misdemeanor and upon conviction, Chiarella could be sentenced to a fine of not more than $25,000; imprisonment of not more than one year; or probation for each year.
