Question: I run a small beauty salon out of my home. Do I need a license to do this, one of my clients who is a lawyer said she thought that I did. I have been doing this for years, so I wouldn’t think it would be necessary?
Response: In many states, beauticians need a license from the state in order to cut hair. If you are running a for-profit hair salon out of your home, it is possible that you do need a license to do so. You should check with your local government agency to determine what licenses are required. Many states and counties have small business offices designed to help small businesses comply with state licensing requirements. Advice from a small business attorney may also be helpful.
