How do I obtain a business license for opening a small bakery?
Question: I want to open my own small business, selling baked goods. Do I need a business license or any other kind of license and how do I go about finding out what I need and getting these licenses?
Response: Each individual city, and in some cases each individual county, has specific requirements for opening a business. State and local licensing and permit offices can provide you with the specific information about the type of licensing you need to open a baked goods business. Because you will be selling food to people, you may also need certification from the Board of Health. Many cities and counties have special information centers in place to help small businesses understand how to comply with legal requirements, and a small business attorney can also provide you with additional information.
