When commencing a business, there are various steps one should follow. Initially, one should ask themselves whether he or she is ready to commence the business. Thus, one should consider the following: whether one has experience in the business; whether one has any courses in managing and operating the business; whether one has discussed the business with family, friends and other people who may be business persons; and whether the person has support, financially and mentally, to start the business. Next, one should answer the following questions regarding the business: whether one has a business plan; whether one has selected form of legal ownership; whether one has sufficient credit and financial resources for the proposed business; whether one has considered the customer base; and whether one has reviewed any tax implications. Other considerations include whether the business requires employees and if so, how payroll, benefits and labor law requirements will be fulfilled. In addition, one should ascertain whether there are any other legal requirements, such as licensing or trademark issues which must be addressed.
