Nj Labor Laws

In New Jersey, the Division of Wage and Hour Compliance administers and enforces New Jersey State Labor Laws. This agency enforces the minimum wage, methods of payment and laws relating to the employment of minors. New Jersey law requires that overtime wages be paid for more than forty hours of worktime, equal to one and a half the amount made generally. In addition, the law prohibits withholding of wages for illegal deductions, which include breakage of items or cash register shortages. Furthermore, New Jersey law has provisions relating to the enforcement of benefit packages the employer must provide, such as payment of holidays, vacation, sick leave and personal days, and reimbursement of certain expenses. Other key areas of New Jersey labor laws include mandatory overtime restrictions for health care workers, farm labor restrictions, apparel industry laws and child labor.
