Federal Labor Law Poster

The United States Department of Labor requires that posters and notices be placed in full view of employees at the workplace. Failure to post the required posters may result in penalties. There are approximately fifteen federal labor law posters which currently may be required at the work site. There are no universal regulations regarding the posting of these posters. Consequently, whether or not an employer must post a federal labor law poster is determined by the Department of Labor's regulations. For example, the "Job Safety and Health Protection" poster must be posted by private employers who are engaged in a business which affects commerce. Additionally, the "Equal Employment Opportunity" poster is required by employers with federal contracts or subcontracts of more than $10,000, certain financial institutions and depositories and entities with government bills of lading. The "Your Rights Under the Family and Medical Leave Act" poster is required by public entities, schools and private employers with more than fifty employees in twenty or more work weeks who are engaged in commerce. Ultimately, in order to determine whether an employer is required to post a federal labor law poster depends upon the statute.
